Dark Side of the Moon is the 8th studio recording by the English rock group, Pink Floyd. Released on Harvest records March 1, 1973, it abruptly propelled the band into the ranks of rock music's biggest acts. Its lyrical themes include conflict, greed, the passage of time, and mental illness. Enjoying both critical and commercial success, it remained on the Billboard Top 200 chart for 741 weeks, from 1973 to 1988, longer than any album in history, and sold an estimated 45 million copies worldwide. Dark Side is not only Pink Floyd's most successful album, it is often ranked as one of the greatest albums of all time.
